What is In Vitro Fertilization?
Vitro fertilization is a way for you to be able to come pregnant when everything else seems to not be working. Gen 5 Fertility wants to ensure that you have every chance possible to get pregnant. We use the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to make sure that we are getting the healthiest eggs during the egg retrieval process. The PRP will provide stimulating growth within the follicle to create strong and healthy eggs. Once we see strong, healthy, and mature eggs, we will start the IVF process. Who Is The Ideal Patient For In Vitro Fertilization?
Any patient that is concerned that she will do In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and not have enough eggs or will have eggs that are not high quality should consider Ovarian Rejuvenation (OR). A recent scientific study we published indicates that OR may also be useful for women that do not have fertility concerns. Look below to learn much more about that.
As noted above, at G5F we offer two options for Ovarian Rejuvenation. One is “Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)” and the other is a related procedure called “EnPLAF,” which is designed to further increase the concentration of growth factors you will receive from your activated platelets.
What Will I Experience With In Vitro Fertilization?
We understand that the IVF journey can seem overwhelming. Here's a general overview of what you can expect during IVF. From initial consultation to pregnancy, it is generally a 6-8 week process but varies depending on your personalized plan.
1. Consultation and Pre-IVF Evaluation
Your journey begins with an initial consultation and evaluations, including medical history reviews and some diagnostic tests. This phase aims to identify any potential challenges and to design a personalized treatment plan for you. Open communication is essential during this phase, so please ask questions and express your concerns.
2. Ovarian Stimulation and Monitoring
Once your treatment plan is established, you'll begin the ovarian stimulation phase. You'll be prescribed hormone medications that stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Regular blood tests and ultrasounds will be carried out during this phase to monitor the growth and development of the eggs. Your IVF team will be with you to support you every step of the way and answer any questions you may have.
3. Egg Retrieval
Next is the egg retrieval procedure, which is usually done under general anesthesia. Using ultrasound guidance, a needle is inserted through the vaginal wall to retrieve the mature eggs from the ovaries. Some patients may experience mild cramping or a sense of fullness following this procedure, but these side effects usually dissipate within a day or two.
4. Fertilization and Embryo Development
The collected eggs are then combined with sperm in our laboratory to facilitate fertilization. Once the eggs are fertilized, they are cultured for several days as they develop into embryos. This process is closely monitored by our embryology team to ensure optimal growth and development.
5. Embryo Transfer
The most viable embryo (or embryos, depending on your personalized plan) is selected for transfer. This procedure is typically painless and involves placing the embryo directly into your uterus with a thin catheter. Following the transfer, you'll rest briefly under our care before returning home.
6. Two-Week Wait and Pregnancy Test
The final stage is a waiting period of about two weeks before a blood test can confirm pregnancy. This can be an emotionally challenging time filled with anticipation and anxiety. Remember, we are here to support you every step of the way.
