Is Ovarian Rejuvenation Right for You?

Nov 06, 2025
Have you heard of ovarian rejuvenation? This relatively new treatment uses established processes to manage specific ovarian issues that can interfere with fertility, and depending on your situation, it may be perfect for you.

Finding out you’re struggling to conceive can be one of the most difficult things in the world to cope with. And if you’ve been told vague things like you’re simply “not young enough” to have a child naturally or your embryos “aren’t viable,” you may want to consider some of the minimally invasive options available before choosing IVF or another, more difficult process.

Specifically, at Gen 5 Fertility Center, we’re one of the only clinics in the world to offer ovarian rejuvenation treatment. Dr. Samuel Wood and Dr. Benito Villanueva will happily walk you through the process and help you determine if it’s right for you.

Ovarian rejuvenation 101: what it is and how it works

Ovarian rejuvenation isn’t a long process, unlike IVF or IUI. It also doesn’t have as many side effects as are often associated with these treatments. That’s because ovarian rejuvenation uses your own blood and healing factors to increase your chances of conception. Here’s how it works.

You can accomplish ovarian rejuvenation in one of three ways: with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), enriched platelet factors (EnPLAF), or Ultra, which uses both. The procedure involves taking a small amount of your blood and separating the platelet-rich plasma. With EnPLAF, we place platelets in an incubator that releases their growth factors.

Once the PRP or EnPLAF (or, in the case of the Ultra procedure, both) have been prepared for injection, the solution is injected into the ovaries using ultrasound technology to ensure proper placement. The solution stimulates your own natural healing and growth factors, which can do wonders for the ovaries and their ability to create numerous, viable eggs.

A good candidate for ovarian rejuvenation

Like with most procedures, not everyone is a perfect candidate for ovarian rejuvenation. You can’t receive the treatment everywhere, so we usually discuss it with those most likely to benefit. Those who are likely to be good candidates for ovarian rejuvenation include patients who are

  • Older but have not gone through menopause
  • Experiencing early signs of menopause or egg count reduction
  • Diagnosed with low AMH or high FSH levels
  • Diagnosed with primary ovarian insufficiency
  • Looking for a less invasive, lengthy process than IVF or IUI
  • Seeking an initial attempt at treating infertility with more natural means
  • Realistic with their expectations for the treatment of infertility

Recent studies have found that ovarian rejuvenation improves ovarian function and tissue, increasing the chances of successful conception. And while this treatment doesn’t have as long a history as IVF, PRP has been successful in other therapies for years, and it can be a helpful, early attempt at managing ovarian issues that interfere with conception.

I’m interested in this treatment: What should I do?

The first thing you should do is consider whether or not your infertility issues are likely focused on the ovaries and/or your egg count and viability. If you have already discussed these things with a prior provider, you may already be a good candidate.

Still, you will need to meet with us at our San Diego, California, clinic before scheduling your treatment. Our providers need to discuss the process with you, your expectations for it, and possibly perform additional tests. Then we can determine whether you are likely to achieve favorable results and should move forward with treatment.

Ovarian rejuvenation can be a helpful option for those who want to conceive with their own eggs and currently don’t have the best odds of doing so. We’re happy to discuss this treatment with you, including what to expect, what will happen, and whether it’s right for you.
